1st June 2022

In the second day of our Sports Conference, 'How to Secure Peak Athletic Performance', we welcomed guests with expansive experience in the health and performance space. Below we give an overview of the exciting live event.

These experts offered insights into different methods in which sports technology can be applied to athletic training, injury risk mitigation, and overall club management.

We were proud to feature speakers from industry-leading organizations such as WIMU, JOTA Sport, Firstbeat, Kinduct, and more, who shared insights about the sport technology space.

We hope that by showing the innovative combination of measuring and management tools, performance / strength coaches, athletic trainers, sports scientists, and others will discover new ways to improve athletic health and performance.

Session 1 - Athlete Performance Monitoring Through EPTS Technology

By: Peter Demopoulos, PhD, Sport Scientist, WIMU

WIMU is a wearable GPS/LPS player tracking system. Elite level teams around the world use this hybrid functionality. The presentation will contextualize GPS/LPS technology to assess elite sport performance spanning from training, return to play, and competition.

Session 2 - Physiological Performance Management in Team Sports

By: Veli-Pekka Kurunmäki, Director of Sports Performance Products, Exercise Physiologist, Firstbeat

Maintaining peak performance throughout a 60-100 game season is a big challenge in team sports. Managing the balance between physiological load and recovery helps to optimize and maximize performance potential. This session presents practical examples of how Firstbeat technology can help coaches with the process of performance management.

Session 3 - Tech it or Leave it: Identifying the right Technology to Make Impact in High Performance Sport

By: Dr Philip Graham-Smith, Head of Biomechanics and Innovation, Aspire Academy

In his session, Dr Philip Graham-Smith highlights a number of misconceptions about how and where technology fits into high-performance sport and how data is utilized to inform practice. He also provides insight into his personal decision-making criteria on the technologies he has adopted and give examples of the work carried out, showing a transparent link to performance outcomes.

Session 4 - ComputerMyoGraphy: A Digital Revolution in Functional Performance Diagnostics in Sports

By: Prof. Dr. William Castro, Co-Founder, Predimo GmbH

What is ComputerMyoGraphy? It begins with Myonardo, a 3D human musculoskeletal computer model, developed by Predimo and designed to analyze and optimize human movement sequences of any kind. Myonardo not only computes the mechanical loads and strains within the body during movement, it also analyzes the contribution of each single muscle. Myonardo creates a comprehensive and user-friendly graphical representation of the results, as well as a clear summary of any individual movement pattern, all depending on your specific requirements. This whole procedure is called ComputerMyoGraphy.

Session 5 - iKinesis: A Running Motion Analysis Tool for Prevention and Performance

By: Frédéric Vieilledent, Physical Therapist, MSD expert, Founder and CEO of Sóma

Learn all about iKinesis, a simple and intuitive analysis tool designed to reproduce runners' movements in 3D from a single sensor placed on the shoe. Developed by Sóma, iKinesis determines all the stress zones according to their technique, gives advice based on them, and optimizes the runner's experience in real-time from its application.

Session 6 - Optimize with a Tsunami of Data: Adaptivity and Individualization in Data Driven Optimal Training

By: Johan Rogestedt, Data Scientist & Software Engineer, Svexa

Johan's presentation describes Svexa's fundamental approach to developing algorithms in general and in particular a framework for optimal training. By striving for accuracy, individualization, and adaptivity in each building block, the assembly of many physiologically relevant pieces to their optimal training planning generator Ellida grants a product useful for any user, with any background for any point in time.

Session 7 - Objectifying ACL Rehab and Return to Play with 3D Motion Capture Technology

By: Maria Joao Cabral, Technical Application Specialist, Xsens | Movella

In this session, Maria Joao Cabral shares examples of how Xsens' motion capture system assists in the rehab and return-to-play protocols of an ACL injury.

Session 8 - Using Motion Analysis to Improve Pit Stop Performance

By: Cassie McColl, Human Performance Specialist, Jota Sport

Pit stops in motorsport can change a race, either for the better or worse. In 24hrs Le Mans 2021, Jota came second by only 0.7sec. One of the issues we had in the race was a cross threaded wheel nut, which can add at least 30sec to a pit stop. Another contributing factor was fatigue within the pit stop crew. In her presentation, Cassie McColl speaks to how she uses Xsens provides motion analysis data to take Jota’s pit stops to the next level. Since adopting the technology,  Jota’s pit stop time by 2.5sec and achieving one of the fastest pit stop times in our first race of World Endurance Championship 2022.
