Functionalities
Here is an overview of the different functionalities offered by Xsens inertial sensor modules.
We advise you to check this article where we detail what should you consider before selecting the best IMU for your needs.
An inertial measurement unit (IMU) is a self-contained system that provides raw, calibrated sensor linear and angular motion data with a triad of gyroscopes and a triad of accelerometers. IMUs are often used as building blocks in more complex systems.
An attitude and heading reference system, or AHRS, provides 3D orientation by integrating gyroscopes and fusing this data with accelerometer and magnetometer data. The yaw output is referenced to true north and the result is a drift-free orientation.
A Motion Reference Unit (MRU) measures roll, pitch, and heave motion with high precision. Designed for marine and offshore applications, MRUs deliver accurate motion data for vessel stabilization, heave compensation, and dynamic positioning systems.
A GNSS/INS combines satellite positioning with inertial sensing to deliver continuous, high-accuracy position, velocity, and orientation data. Ideal for autonomous vehicles, mapping, and outdoor robotics.
Real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning is a satellite navigation technology used to increase the precision of position data obtained from satellite positioning systems.
A Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO) system fuses camera and inertial sensor data to estimate precise motion and position in real time. It enhances navigation performance in environments where GNSS is unreliable or unavailable, such as indoors or underground.
Applications
Our IMUs can be used in multiple applications.
In travel and transport, autonomous vehicles are on the rise. The range of possibilities in this field is extensive. So is the list of tech requirements needed. Our sensors can be used in any of these areas:
-> AgTech, forestry & landscaping
-> Construction & Mining
-> Utility & Sweeping Robots
Reliability and precision are of the utmost importance in this field. Due to their anti-magnetic distortion filters, the Xsens modules are a highly suitable solution for motion technology applications at sea - underwater or on the surface.
-> Marine Applications
-> MRUs for Heave Compensation
Aerospace and drone applications require ever-increasing accuracy and precision. Whether you need low-power consumption, low-latency, high-speed processing, or a lightweight and small motion tracking sensor, you’ll find a fit for any aviation, air, or space application.
