In a three-way partnership, Dalhousie’s Department of Athletics, School of Health and Human Performance, and Kinduct have created the Intern Performance Coaches (IPCs) Program. This program tailors to 3rd and 4th year Kinesiology students, offering a sport science seminar course followed by a practicum. Practicum students are placed with different varsity teams at the university, where they are responsible for monitoring athletes using Kinduct’s Athlete Management System. This is done through administering wellness questionnaires, managing training loads, and objectively tracking an athlete’s response to training.
“I am very excited with the early success of the new Intern Performance Coaching classes in the School of Health and Human Performance. These classes are not only providing invaluable experiential learning opportunities for Kinesiology students at Dalhousie, but the practicum students are also playing integral roles in the success of their respective varsity teams,” said Dr. Ryan Frayne, IPCs Instructor at Dalhousie University. “The buy-in from the Kinesiology student body, Dalhousie Athletics, and School of Health and Human Performance has been remarkable. Additionally, we’re grateful for Kinduct’s generosity, as none of this would have been possible without the access to their Athlete Management System and immense support from their staff.”
“The advancement of the IPCs program has been incredible over the past three years. We started with just five students and now have enough interest and enrolment for two full courses,” said Braelin Rowe, an Implementation and Loyalty Specialist at Kinduct. “The hands-on program provides an opportunity to explore the fields of sport science, technology, and athlete management. It’s a very unique experience to be a part of.”
